Treasurer's Trove

Well the Sponsored Walk has been and gone and once again we had fine weather for it even though it was raining quite heavy on the west side ofLeedsand in Bradford.

We had a bit more competition this year on the day, the Leeds Half Marathon didn`t make it easy to get across the city up to Round hay Park because a lot of the city centre was closed off. There was also competition from British Heart Foundation as they had a walk along the Leeds and Liverpool canal.

I don`t know if it was a good idea to have the stalls all inside the mansion building this year instead of a marquee outside as we didn`t seem to have a presence in the park, but at least we saved quite a bit of money by not hiring the marquee, so we might have to have a think about that for next year. This year was our 20thwalk and it has been a good money raiser for us in fact that and the Christmas draw are our main fund raising projects.
Writing about Christmas draw reminds me that I should thank Jack Calvert, the Assistant Treasurer for all the work he has done over the years with regard to the Christmas Draw. It`s not been easy but Jack, with the help of his wife Brenda , has done a very good job so a big thank you to you both.

I would now like to take this opportunityto thank all those people who worked so hard in setting up the sponsored walk, all those who took part and all the generous people who sponsored them.

The next time I write to you will be when we send out the results of the Christmas Draw.I write this because by the time you are reading this there will only be just over 10 weeks to Christmas and I just thought you might like to know that.

A J McLean,
Treasurer

CHAIRMAN'S COMMENTS

To celebrate our 20th Sponsored Walk after a dreadful week of weather the event was blessed with a pretty nice day. I am sure our walkers were delighted with the medal and the Certificate to Commemorate the Event, although numbers were disappointingly low. I believe we will have raised a nice sum of money for the event. The use of the two Educational Rooms in the Mansion was really appreciated for the Registration and Stalls. A full summary will be given inside this newsletter.
My grateful thanks to sponsors Morrish &Co, City Press, Wilscaff, Whingate Stores and the many who donated items for our Raffle and Tombola stall.
Also all those who worked on the day and the many staff of the wards and units at the LGI who worked and walked on be half of our Charity.
Finally to all our walkers a big thank you

LATEST NEWS FROM TAKE HEART NEWS DESK

One of our lot has been sampling the facilities at the LGI recently.

Just in case you have not heard Colin Pullan has been in hospital in September. I can report he is now home again taking things easy??? So if you wonder why you have not seen him around and about as usual, this is why.

He has been told by several trustees to take his time, do his rehab over the coming weeks.

I can report he is well, but whenever I have seen him, he has a list of instructions to ensure everything is carried out as normal---even if he isn’t here!

If there is anything urgent that needs sorting out either Alec McLean or myself can be contacted

Dear Mr McLean

Pleased find enclosed a cheque for £350-00 in aid of the Take Heart Campaign

Earlier this year, my sister Emma and I completed the Bath Half Marathon and collected sponsorship for this in aid of our cousin, James Clough, who sadly passed away while being treated at Leeds Infirmary last year. Despite his condition, James lived his life to the full, often overcoming some fairly tough obstacles and we wanted to attempt something in his memory that was just a little difficult for us. As it was a particularly cold, wet and muddy day, this more than proved to be the case, but we achieved our goal and so have been able to raise the money promised to us. We hope this will go at least a little way in helping with the fantastic work the team at Leeds do and which I know James and his parents were always so appreciative of.

Yours sincerely

Dear All

Pleased find enclosed a cheque for £110-00.

On Monday 9th June my Dad had a triple heart bypass.

On Friday 4th July My partner Jason and I got married in Mauritius. When we got home we had a blessing in the village church and a party for all our family and friends. Thanks to the wonderful efforts of all the staff at the LGI my Dad was able to be there looking better than he has done in years.

We raised money by charging our guests £1 to guess the weight of the cake. The winner donated the £20 prize money back to the charity pot. The cake weighed 21 lbs 8oz.

Thank you once again to all the fantastic staff and volunteers for their hard work

Thank you

Emma and Jason Palmer

Dear Mr McLean

After “dragging” myself round the 26.2 miles of the London Marathon, just one month ago, I have pleasure in sending you cheques for £714-61 towards the Take Heart Appeal.

I was very grateful to you all for supporting my Dad –Peter Thomas when he spent time having heart valves replaced and lots of other help, over the past 18 months. It seemed logical to raise money for your charity, to say a big thank you. I hope the money helps you to help more patients at the LGI.

Two of my friends donated money via the website (N Harling £50-00 and O Ashford 10-00) so my total was £774-61 (Yippee!!).

I have enclosed sponsor forms so that you can claim Gift Aid on these sums. I ran as a nun with a friend “Nuns on the Run”

Good luck with all your future work and thank you again for all your help to my great Dad Peter

Sincere thanks
Rib Nicholson
