Treasurer's
Trove
I
am presently in the throes of finalising the accounts for
the auditors. It comes round very quickly, one minute I seem
to have all the time in the world and the next minute it is
upon me. Mind you weeks seem to fly by as though there is
only one day in a week instead of seven – makes you
wonder why it didn`t pass this quickly when you were at school.
Technology is well and truly upon us now and payments via
the internet are increasing as the weeks go by. There is still
a problem as to why the donation has been made, i.e. In memory
of, sponsoring someone, or just general donation but hopefully
we will get on top of this problem in the near future. At
the moment we are having to write to the donators. I remember
years ago when computers were starting to become established
in the work place we were told that all paperwork would become
obsolete and everything could be obtained from the computer.
I seem to have more paperwork in my little office not less.
Mind you today`s youngsters live by the computer, even the
new mobile phones have more power in them than a whole room
full of computers in the good old days.
I'll get back to my accounting now and by the time you read
this all paperwork will be in the hands of our Auditors.
I'm sorry that those people who donated instead of sending
Christmas cards didn`t get their donations in the Christmas
Newsletter. We do need these donations in before the 5th of
November so they can be included in the Newsletter which we
post out on the day of the Christmas raffle draw. So maybe
next year!

J McLean,
Treasurer

CHAIRMAN'S COMMENTS
In
our first newsletter of the year, I would like to wish all
our members and supporters a very Happy and Healthy New Year.
Your charity over the past year has made some great projects
come to fruition to the benefit of so many patients, their
relatives and Staff.
In
December, our membership secretary Mr George Harrison was
very ill whilst visiting his daughter in Saffron Walden and
spent many weeks in Cambridge Hospital. Of course, his wife,
Mrs Pat Harrison, our secretary, was with him. I am pleased
to say George is back home and I and all his colleagues wish
him a speedy recovery.
Illness
of members of our admin team also meant that our usual high
standard of administration was under immense pressure during
the December/January period and I would like to apologise
if this has caused any upset.
I
am pleased to sday that we are now back on an even keel with
the secretary’s post being looked after by our Assistant
Secretary Mrs Stephanie Kaufman and the membership being looked
after by Mr Paul Kaufman. All our trustees are now looking
at plans to ensure continuity of the charity in the future.
For
2010 please continue to help us to keep making a difference
in the Yorkshire Heart Centre – we believe there is
none finer.

Pullan MBE
Chairman

Letters
– March 2010
Dear
Colin
I
would like to thank you and all of Take Heart for kindly funding
the printing of “A Patient and Carers Guide to understanding
Planned Angioplasty” booklet for us. It has been a huge
piece of work but without you, we would not have been able
to complete it. It will be beneficial to our patients as they
currently get little or no information.
In
the near future, we hope to start a pre-admission clinic for
this group of patients and give then the booklet which I am
sure they will find a useful piece of information.
Kind
regards
Chenele
Keenan
Team Leader/Nurse Specialist
Cardiac Therapy Services.

Dear
Colin
My
staff and I would like to say a huge thank you for the recent
refurbishment of our staff room, which Take Heart have so
kindly paid for. It is fabulous and goes a long way to boosting
morale in a small isolated department like ours.
The
gift we received at Christmas has paid for new crockery, cutlery
and kitchen equipment to add to the comfort and splendour
of our new staff room.
Please
feel free to come and have a cup of tea!
Kind
regards
Meg
Bould
Team Leader
Nuclear Cardiology.

Walking
Club Notes
31st
January 2010 - Pudsey. It is 19 years since we had to cancel
a walk because of adverse weather, so the traditional 3rd
Sunday in the month has served us well. The walk was deferred
from a fortnight ago because of the snow and with the weather
forecast for this week, things weren’t looking too good
for today.
However, it turned out to be a lovely day for walking even
if still frosty underfoot. Setting out along Intake Lane and
then left into Swinnow Avenue to bring us to Stanningley Park
for a brief stretch off the roads. Up through the local trading
estate and then a steady climb to Cemetery Road, a footpath
towards St Lawrence Cricket ground, down and past the Cenotaph
to South Parade where we joined the old railway formation
to take us back to Kent Road, Lowtown and back to base.
Our
thanks to the Britannia staff for their usual excellent fare,
and thanks to Maureen and co. for the usual raffle.

Naming
of Teddy

A
large teddy bear was donated by Mr Dean Sayor of Strands Card
and Gift Shop, Drighlington to run a ‘Naming of the
Bear’ to raise funds for Take Heart.
The
winner was Mrs Lynne Brown who named the bear Malcolm.
The
event got some excellent publicity for Take Heart.
Thanks
to Dean, their customers and staff for raising the lovely
sum of £133.70.
