It
is with deep regret that we inform you of the death of Mr
Harry Hurst.
Harry,
an accountant, was instrumental in the system of accounting,
the Constitution and the selling and printing of the first
newsletter for the Take Heart Charity and made a significant
contribution to ensure that the charity was established
to the success it holds today.
We
entend our deepest sympathy to his wife Jacqui and family
at their sad loss.

Treasurer's
Trove
March
2008
Well,
it's that time of year again when the accounts need to go to the
accountants.
I
have completed them and by the time you read this they will be safely
in their hands and well on the way to being completed. I am not
going to disclose how we have fared - I'll leave that until the
AGM in June.
I
would like to take this opportunity to thank all those generous
people who have fund raised on our behalf and all those who have
donated. There are people who donate to us on a regular basis either
monthly, quarterly or yearly and they do so by direct debit, standing
order , deed of covenant or give as you earn and I would like to
say a special thanks you to them as they tend to get forgotten over
the course of the year. We like to pride ourselves that, wherever
possible, we acknowledge all donations in one form or another.
When
I first started as treasurer, it was all down to pure book keeping
and donations were all either cash or cheque. Now with all this
new technology, we receive a lot more payment over the internet.
A lot of the stores such as Marks and Spencer, Tesco, etc are stopping
payment by cheque. I wonder how long it will be before they stop
accepting cash and we will be a world of plastic cards. At the moment
it may seem a bit absurd, but I wonder what it will be like in the
next decade or two, only time will tell - but will it be any better?
Let's hope we are all there to see.
See
you at the AGM in June.
Alec J. McLean,
Treasurer, Take Heart

The
Thursday Group

I
was delighted to go along to meet Neville and Jean Jackson and members
of the Thursday Group to thank them for a cheque to the sum of £500.00.
Over the years, the group has raiused thousands of pounds for our
charity and I am always amazed that such a small group can raise
such substantial amounts. It is always my pleasure to tell them
about our work and say a big thank you to all concerned.

Ward
Survey 2007
Following
a survey of wards throughout the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust,
six of the wards that come under the wing of Take Heart were voted
best within the top twelve of all wards.
Many
congratulations to them all. I am sure that Take Heart can take
a little credit in helping these wards win this accolade. This just
shows that our slogan of "Helping to make a Difference"
is certainly working and all because of the wonderful support of
our members and supporters.

Leeds
Oddfellows
The
Oddfellows fundraise all the year round for all sorts of charities
and on Saturday 19th January 2008 a cheque for £2000.00 was
presented to Pat Harrison the Secretary of Take Heart by Denis Mapplebeck,
the Noble Grand (Chairman) of the Leodis Financial Lodge in the
Leeds District of the”Oddfellows”. Denis had a triple
heart bypass in 1999 in Ward14 carried out by Mr. McGoldrick. In
the Oddfellows, Denis is a founder member of their Unity Zipper
Club, which is open to all of their members who have undergone invasive
Heart Surgery. The Oddfellows is the largest Branch Friendly Society

1car1
Support Take Heart
The
staff of the head office of 1Car1 in Leeds hold a “Dress Down
Day” every month to raise money for charities and Take Heart
has been chosen on many occasions, so I was pleased to go along
to present them with a Certificate of Appreciation for the sum of
£819-65 which they have donated to Take Heart up to date.

A
big Thank You for the Stamps
As
a lot of you will know, our member, Glenys Hinchcliff started selling
used postage stamps for us on ebay in 2004 and since then has raised
£1,210.00 so it was time to present her with a Certificate
of Appreciation when I last went to see her and took your stamps.
Glenys
has asked me to say a big thank you to everyone who sends in their
used postage stamps and especially those who have sent in albums
of stamps as she says she could not do
this without your help.
Glenys
also sells knitting patterns on ebay, so if you have any old patterns
in good condition that you no longer use send them along to the
office and I will let Glenys have them
You
can visit Glenys ebay shop at http://stores.ebay.co.uk/chocolate-box-hobbies
Our
grateful thanks Glenys and may you spend many more hours in your
shop!
Pat
Harrison, Secretary.

16th
Airedale Cubs Reed Pack

On
Monday 28th January, Colin and I went to visit the 16th Airedale
Cubs Reed Pack at their Yeadon headquarters to collect a cheque
for the lovely sum of £104.00. The amount was raised by the
cubs making and selling Christmas Cards with one or two donations
included as well.
The
cubs raise money each year for different charities and this year
we were nominated - for which we are very grateful.

Thank You Letter
23rd
January 2008
Dear
Colin and everyone at Take Heart
All
the staff on ward 18 LGI would like to “Thank You” for
providing the funds and support for a second nurses station on the
ward. This project has benefited both patients and staff. Staffs
are now nearer to their patients and the staff are working in a
slightly quieter, calmer enviornment
Amazingly,
this has also helped to maintain staff morale!
Once
again thank you from all staff on Ward 18
Best
Wishes

Morley
Rock 'n Roll

Once
again I was invited along with our Treasurer Mr Alec McLean to go
along to Fountain Street Club at Morley on Friday 1st February 2008
and meet Mr Michael Vickers and his band of helpers and supporters,
all rockers, who work tirelessly for the Take Heart Charity throughout
the year and receive a cheque to the sum of £2700-00.
This
latest donation takes the total that Michael and Helpers have raised
over the years in excess of £20000-00 which of coarse has
helped Take Heart to continue to make a difference at the Yorkshire
Heart Centre.
My
grateful thanks to all concerned for continuing support given. They
are already raising funds for 2008 and I was pleased to tell the
rockers about some of the work the charity is undertaking at the
moment

Another
Take Heart Certificate of Appreciation
It
gave me great pleasure to present the Take Heart Certificate of
Appreciation to Mr.Brian and Miss Emma Saunders who completed the
ride from Bradford to Liverpool, along the Leeds Liverpool Canal
in atrocious weather. Their sponsorship and money raised at Morrisons
and a donation of £50.00 from Marks & Spencers (Bradford)
raised the magnificent sum of £770.00
