Treasurer's
Trove
By
the time you read this, we will have celebrated the 20th Anniversary
of Take Heart.
20
years - where has it all gone? I've enjoyed most of my time
with Take Heart, there's been one or two hiccups along the way,
but in the main, a good experience.
Over
the years, we have fund raised in many ways - collecting at
Morrison's, the Grand Theatre, the Theatre at Guiseley and one
or two other spots until at the moment, we seem settled at IKEA.
We've visited pubs and working men’s clubs all over the
county where artistes have performed on our behalf. We used
to go to galas in the old days with our stall and we had a badge
making machine in those days upon which customers could make
their own message on the badge, draw a picture or their name
on it. We still have the badge machine, but it hasn’t
been used for a long time. We have cubs, scouts, brownies and
guides fund raise for us and Colin and I have visited a few
groups ion the past. Golf Club captains of both sexes have made
our charity their designated charity for the term of office
and money has been raised by this method. Firms have had dress
down days charging a fee which also has benefited Take Heart.
Members have their own methods of fund raising like selling
items on E-Bay or passing on their fees for lectures, talks
etc. We have groups who raise money for us and then on a personal
note, we have members and their relatives and friends who run
the London Marathon, the New York Marathon, the Great North
Run, The Great South Run, the Leeds 10k and John O'Groats to
Lands End for us.
It's
wonderful how generous people are and it's been a pleasure and
privilege to have been the treasurer of such a good local charity.
Long may it reign.
A
J McLean,
Treasurer

PHOTOGRAPHIC SUPPORT
For
several years, Mr Charles Clarke of Mark Swinford Photographers
has very kindly donated a voucher for our annual raffle and
other events. The voucher entitles the recipient to have a portrait
sitting, preview presentation and a 10" x 8" framed
portrait valued at £165.00
In our 20th Anniversary year, I thought it would be nice to
give Charles a special 'Thank You' and to say how much we have
appreciated his generosity and support over the years.

FUND
RAISING STANDARDS BOARD
Eagle
eyed members will notice a new logo on the front of the website
and on Take Heart Literature. This 'tick' shows that Take Heart
is now a member of the Fundraising Styandards Board which is
a self-regulatory body for fundraising in the UK.
See www.frsb.org.uk
Membership indicates that Take Heart has signed up to the highest
fiundraising standards and must:
-
Adhere
to the Institute of Fundraising's Code of Practice
-
Have
procedures in place to deal with complaints
-
Display
the 'tick' on fundraising materials
We
consider that membership shows that your charity, Take Heart
is well-run and forward thinking. Most of the big national charities
have become members. Look for the 'tick' logo when you next
see their adverts. Just as importantly, surveys have shown that
consumers are mopre likely to donate to a charity if they knew
it was a member of the Fundraising Standards Board.
We hope that membership will continue to inspire the confidence
of members and the public in Take Heart.
Tom
Morrish
Trustee

LETTER
Dear
Colin
Where
have the last twenty years gone? I felt the need to put pen
to paper in recognition of all that you and the team have achieved
since 1989.
I have received the Take Heart newsletters with interest over
the years and it has kept me in touch with the developments
regardless of which part of the country I have been working
in.
March 2009 was no exception and yet it suddenly occurred to
me that you may not be aware of how much Take Heart means to
the staff. I can remember one grey day in November, it must
have been between 1990 as we were preparing for ‘Trust
Status’ results from a recent communication survey indicated
that more needed to be done. Take Heart were holding their meeting
in the Garland Gallery, it started about 7pm as I remember,
it wasn’t worth going home; I was tired and disheartened.
The meeting commenced; only a handful of us were present and
I remember thinking this is why I am here, you were so full
of enthusiasm and light and this helped me to greatly put everything
into perspective.
I would suggest therefore that the second paragraph on the front
page of Take Heart News issue No 118 should read “has
provided support for patients, relatives and friends and staff.”
I have worked with several charities over the years and tend
to use Take Heart as a yardstick; through your leadership, we
have all benefited.
With
best wishes
Yours sincerely
