Treasurer's
Trove
Well
that’s it – another year another dollar. Don`t these
years fly by or is it just me that thinks they do. This time last
year was the first real indication of the recession starting to
take effect and I am sure that it has hit us over the year and
at our various fundraising activities. I haven`t got final figures
on the walk or the Christmas Draw as yet but both of these fund
raisers seem to be down on last year. What with the recession,
the bank interest and people loosing their jobs, for most of us
2009 could be a year to forget.
If we work on the Pantomime theme we could liken the banks and
the government to the wicked queen and all those generous people
who continued to donate to Take Heart the fairy godmother.
To date I have banked £8210.95 from the sponsored walk so
whilst I am on that subject I would like to thank every one who
took part in it, all those people who sponsored you and all the
members who work so hard to set it up.
Over the years as you know, we have donated quite a lot of monies
to the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust and because they always
take a little time to invoice us for work or equipment we have
received through them we have been able to put some money in a
holding account and in the past this has paid us around £600
a month in interest. Now we make about £16.00 but hopefully
things are on the up.
You will notice that the donations total since the last newsletter
is the superb sum of £80,230.46. We have received 5 legacies
within this period which have amounted to £63,733.78. It
is very kind of people to think of the charity in this way and
it has certainly boosted our income over the past year.
Finally I would like to thank you for taking the time to read
my Treasurers Trove items over the year. Now I would like to wish
you all a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
A
J McLean,
Treasurer

CHAIRMAN'S
COMMENTS
Dear
Friends
As
we draw to the end of another year I would like to thank you all
for the support and efforts you have made on behalf of Take Heart.
Your Charity has made some really nice projects come to fruition
over the year and a great number of patients and families will
have benefitted whilst attending the Yorkshire Heart Centre. It
is you that makes it all possible.
May I take this opportunity of thanking all the Trustees and Helpers
for their dedication, ensuring that your Charity continues to
serve the Yorkshire Heart Centre again helping to ensure it is
one of the finest in the UK and Europe.
So many patients have had marvellous improvements in health due
to the care received, some have not been so fortunate and our
thoughts are with you and we hope for better times ahead, try
to keep cheerful and in good spirits.
Our thoughts are also with the dedicated staff many of whom will
be working over Christmas and New Year for their love and care.
You’re Trustees and I wish each and every one of you a Very
Merry Christmas and a Healthy New Year

TAKE
HEART TURKEY AND TINSEL WEEKEND
On
Friday the 6th November 2009, 84 members and friends were making
their way to the pickup points to board the two coaches taking
us to the Seacote Hotel at St Bees. The hotel is situated overlooking
the beach and the Solway Firth and the area is known as the “Heritage
Coast” which lies to the West of the Lake District and is
the start of the West to East coast cross country walk.
A coffee break was enjoyed at Settle and a “stretch your
legs” break at the Tebay Service Station. On arrival at
the Seacote Hotel tea and mince pies were awaiting us. After our
evening meal we enjoyed a game of bingo and a quiz.
Our day on Saturday included a trip to Keswick and on our return
we enjoyed a very nice Christmas dinner, crackers and all, after
which we were entertained by a very able singer and a visit from
Santa Claus with presents for all.
For the past few years it has been the custom to attend the Remembrance
Service where ever we are on the Sunday, This year it took place
at Whitehaven around the War Memorial in the local park attended
by representatives of the Services and local dignitaries who laid
wreaths on the Cenotaph.
Soon it was time to have some lunch before beginning our journey
home. The day was bright and sunny and the countryside was at
its autumn best.
Our thanks to Maureen and Arthur for organising the trip and preparing
all the gifts for Santa, to Maureen and Margaret for the raffle
and to Santa and his helpers for distributing the gifts.
A most enjoyable trip
