THE MAYOR OF WAKEFIELD
It is with deep regret that we report the tragic death of
Councillor Brian Holmes, the Mayor of Wakefield.
He had been mayor since May and was councillor for the
Horbury and South Ossett ward.
Councillor Holmes was married to Janet, also a former
mayor and a councillor in the same ward. He also leaves
behind his son Darren and his grandchildren.
Brian had most generously nominated Take Heart and the
British Heart Foundation as the recipients of his fund raising
during his year in office.
The leader of the council, Peter Box said “This is such sad and terrible news.
Brian was a much respected friend and colleague who was doing an excellent
job as mayor and representing the people of Horbury and South Ossett.”
Wakefield Council’s chief executive, Joanne Roney said “This is devastating
news for Janet, her family and his friends on the council. He was a dedicated
public servant who served the area and the causes he supported with great
enthusiasm and success.”
We at Take Heart send our sincere condolences to his wife Janet - our thoughts
are with them at this heartbreaking time.

Chairman, Take Heart
