The Charity of the Yorkshire Heart Centre
My wife and I were delighted to be invited to the Red Lion Inn in Earby, near Skipton. This turned out to be a lovely pub, part dating back to the 1700s and full of old-world character. The welcome we received from the hosts, Maria and Paul King was superb and with our dog, we settled down in front of a blazing log fire to hear the story about why they held a charity Mini Rock Festival with three local bands in aid of Take Heart - 50-50 with an appeal for a defibrillator for the area round the pub. One of the rock bands, Rock Pawn, are regulars in the pub and periodically play there and on the farm, also owned by Paul and Maria King. One member of the band is Grant Duxbury and his mum and dad, Sandra and Patrick, told us that Grant has been a regular visitor to the Yorkshire Heart Centre having been born with congenital heart problems 29 years ago. He has regularly been in Killingbeck and LGI receiving life saving treatment. During these visits, they became aware of the work which Take Heart do and wanted to give something in return. 310 people attended the Rock Festival and it raised the magnificent sum of £3050.00. I was given our share of £1525.00 and in return gave Maria and Paul a Certificate of Appreciation signed by our chairman, Gina McGawley. Many thanks Paul, Maria, Sandra, Patrick and everyone who took part including local businesses who donated food for the event. We appreciate it very much. Bill Stevenson Trustee - Manager, IT
