The Charity of the Yorkshire Heart Centre
Kay contacted us to say that she has a congenital heart defect and a year ago, had heart surgery and a mechanical valve fitted at Leeds General Infirmary. She said "I benefited from the support you have given to the wards and the use of the free TV and phone and my Dyson fan were my lifeline whilst on the ward. I want to give something back for the support I was given. Kay gave us details of the event she was organising. Her 14 year old daughter Abi is a singer and was taking part. I winced at the next detail .... Kay’s husband and his friend will have their chests waxed publicly – (Ouch!) She is also holding a raffle and has some super prizes to give. The event has now taken place and Kay has raised the fantastic amount of £910.00. Kay says "On the day the club was full and everyone enjoyed the day. My daughter Abi sang for 2 x 45 minute spots and everyone enjoyed it. My husband Mick and his brother Jeff raised sponsor money to have their chest waxed (and another man paid to join in) and were very brave. The raffle had 30 prizes, most being donated, including a meat, beer and chocolate hamper and a local company donated their services. Overall it went very well and everyone was happy to dig deep for a very worthy cause that provided me with comforts whilst I had my open heart surgery last year. I am humbled at the support everyone gave us. Very many thanks Kay, Abi, Mick, Jeff and everyone else who helped make this event such a success. Rest assured that the money raised will directly benefit patients of the Yorkshire Heart Centre here in LGI. Bill Stevenson
