The Charity of the Yorkshire Heart Centre
Ian Rayner
Ian wrote to us as follows: This year I'm planning two marathons. LT in Coniston in June and a road effort in Chicago in October. My last attempt at a marathon was 3 years ago again on the Lakeland Trails event in Coniston. Fair to say on the day things didn't exactly go to plan, so there is definitely unfinished business. A short while after my last attempt I spent a few weeks within the Yorkshire Heart Centre at Leeds General Infirmary. During that stay I fully realised just how much Take Heart do for the Patients, Visitors, and Staff of this great department. Heart disease has affected my life previously, having lost my own Father-in-Law, and a very good friend Kevin, well before their time should have been up. My mother also battled for many years and had cause to thank both the LGI and Take Heart many times before finally leaving us aged 86. I would dedicate this attempt to all 3, and hope to make it a fitting tribute to them. If you can spare any amount, however small, I promise you Take Heart will make good use of it. It is entirely staffed by volunteers with only small admin costs. In the 27 years since it's inception the charity has raised over £3million, all put to good use for the Yorkshire heart Centre. My Father-in-Law, (mentioned above), was Ken Lillie, who was a founder member of Take Heart at Killingbeck Hospital What a fantastic effort Ian - we really appreciate it and wish you the best of luck in your endeavours.
